Most llms.txt advice oversells. The measurable reality in 2026: Ahrefs studied sites with llms.txt files and found roughly 97% got zero hits on the file from AI bots, and Google has said publicly that it does not use llms.txt. If a vendor tells you this file will transform your AI visibility, close the tab.
Here is why we built a generator anyway. The file costs ten minutes, carries zero risk, and functions as a forcing exercise: deciding which ten pages best explain your company is worth doing even if no bot ever reads the result. Some developer-tool ecosystems already consume the format, and if a major engine adopts it, the sites with files in place win the transition. Cheap insurance, honestly labeled.
What moves AI visibility today is different work: being mentioned on the pages engines cite, answering the questions buyers actually ask, and measuring per engine. Spend your real effort there.

What is llms.txt?+
A proposed convention: a markdown file at yourdomain.com/llms.txt that gives AI systems a curated map of your most important pages. An H1 with your name, a blockquote summary, then sections of links with short notes. It is a proposal from Answer.AI's Jeremy Howard, and adoption is voluntary.
Do AI engines actually read llms.txt?+

Your best answer-shaped pages: docs, pricing, comparison pages, honest FAQs. Think of it as the reading list you would hand an intern who has to describe your company accurately in one afternoon. Skip marketing fluff; a curated short list beats a sitemap dump.
Will llms.txt improve my AI visibility?+
By itself, probably not today, and anyone promising otherwise is selling. Visibility comes from being mentioned and cited across sources engines actually read.
