Meta tag checker
The head of your page is the first thing most machines read about it. Enter a URL and this checker returns the title and meta description with character counts, the canonical URL, robots directives, and every Open Graph and Twitter tag, each carrying a pass or warn flag. You see the page exactly the way a crawler receives it, in a few seconds.
Why head tags still matter in the AI era
AI assistants that search the live web retrieve pages through crawlers and weigh the title heavily when deciding what a page is about and whether it answers the question at hand. A vague or duplicated title makes that judgment harder on every query. Robots directives cut deeper: a stray noindex removes the page from the indexes that answer engines ground on, and Google documents that snippet controls such as nosnippet and max-snippet also limit what its AI features may show from your page.
The description plays a quieter role. Engines usually quote body text rather than the meta description, but the description still fills your search snippets and many link previews, so a missing or truncated one costs you at the moment a human decides whether to click through from an answer.
How to read the flags
Titles warn past roughly 60 characters because that is where display truncation typically starts; the full text is still read by machines, so a warn here is about presentation rather than indexing. Descriptions warn outside roughly 70 to 160 characters. A missing canonical is flagged because duplicate URLs then compete with each other, and a robots warn means a directive is actively restricting indexing or snippets, which deserves immediate attention.
The Open Graph and Twitter rows check completeness: og:title, og:description, og:image and twitter:card. These govern the card that renders when your link is shared in chat apps and social feeds. Absent tags mean every platform guesses, and each guesses differently.
What to fix first
Start with anything the robots row flags, because an unintended noindex outranks every other problem on this page combined. Then fix missing or duplicated titles so each page states plainly what it answers. Then write descriptions for the pages that earn impressions, and finish by adding an og:image so shared links stop rendering as bare text.
Clean tags make retrieval and presentation work in your favor. Whether AI engines then name your brand is a separate question, and Reachroller answers it directly by tracking whether ChatGPT mentions you on real buyer questions, from $29 per month with a free 3-day trial.
Frequently asked questions
What is the right title length?+
Keep the part that matters inside roughly 60 characters, since that is where search results and previews usually truncate. Machines still read the full tag, so a longer title is a presentation issue rather than an indexing one. Lead with the specific answer or product, put the brand at the end, and never share one title across multiple pages.
Does the meta description affect AI answers?+
Only at the edges. Answer engines quote passages from your body content rather than the description, so it will rarely change whether you are cited. It does control what humans read in search snippets and some previews before deciding to visit, which makes it worth writing well on pages that already earn impressions.
Which robots directives should worry me?+
noindex and none are the serious ones, since they remove the page from the indexes answer engines draw on. nosnippet and max-snippet:0 are subtler: the page stays indexed, but Google documents that these controls also restrict what its AI features can display from it. Confirm every restrictive directive is deliberate before touching anything else.
Everything passes. Does that mean I show up in AI answers?+
It means nothing in your head tags is holding you back, which is a prerequisite rather than a result. Being named in answers depends on crawler access, on content that answers buyer questions better than competing pages, and on how engines weigh the sources they retrieve. Test crawler access next, then measure actual mentions on the questions you care about.
